When's something going to be done about the vampires, huh? One of them killed me not long ago, and more than just me by the sound of it. You keep saying they're taken care of, but nothing happened to him. I think he's gone now, alright? No punishment, no anything.

Some wardens do. But Zero is punishment enough in the opinion of some wardens.

And what are we meant to do for those wardens, huh? Sit around and ignore their incompetence? If this were the military, they'd be dead by now. Just because it isn't doesn't mean I'm willing to turn a blind eye.

It's our calling to manage ourselves. Not yours. You need to worry about your own warden and your own redemption. We have to work within the restrictions given us by the Admiral.

I would have killed him once for every time he killed someone else, or chained him up for a day per body instead. Maybe taken his left hand if the others wouldn't have worked. Men speak in violence, human or otherwise.

This isn't a country. It isn't a government. We're the staff. Think of it like a large company.

There are very few humane ways to restrain a vampire.

Then don't be humane. He killed people. Mass murder, huh? You really think a week in a cell changes anything? What he did wasn't humane.. I don't see why you feel the need to be.

It's probably why you wardens redeem so few inmates.

Something was done. Any new incidents are handled by the appropriate wardens.

A week in a cell would actually be a good punishment for a person like the vampire in question. He wanted attention.

I thought we agreed Level Zero isn't "something." Last three attacks I heard of, the worst done was a few days in Level Zero. I'm not making threats here, just warnings.

They get attention in Level Zero. Lock them in a closet without their journals for a few days and maybe I'll believe it.

Level Zero is a brig. It has more affect on some inmates over others, and it's difficult to know how an individual will react to that situation until exposed to it. After Armand's crimes, he was detained in Zero until something could be done; he disappeared off the barge before I had the chance to ascertain what an appropriate punishment would be for him.

Your warnings are not new; they have been acknowledged and considered before, but as every pairing is extremely individualized, it is impossible to establish a general punishment beyond that which is already in place.

He was already in level zero by the time we were assigned. Your need to place blame is unnecessary.

Trying to get answers, not place blame. Seems that's what the wardens like doing. I was hoping you could tell me more about what might have helped stop him so we can use it on the others.

Very well. As I said, however, the pairing process is strongly individualized; it would seem that one vampire here is not like another. There have been vampire wardens.

I did not have the chance to learn much from Armand before he vanished.

My people are vegetarians. It took time for me to acclimate to humanity's carnivorous tendencies.

I could become a vegetarian if I wanted to and survive just fine. Vampires can't.

You must learn to objectify other cultures so that you know when it is appropriate to interfere, and when it is not. The crimes Armand committed were wrong, and deserved punishment; that does not mean every vampire is guilty simply for being what they are.

I've gotten pretty good at objectifying cultures when I need to, all right?

Vampires are guilty for being what they are. Until they can live on something other than humans, I'm not going to change my mind about that.

This facade is unnecessary. They are as they are, and should not be held responsible for the necessities for their survival. The Admiral provides them with sustenance, and it is not necessary for them to completely drain a body of blood in order to survive.

Vampires have served as wardens, and they have graduated. Your bias is creating further problems.

And what happens when they leave this ship or the blood runs out again, huh? They still drink blood, whether the Admiral provides the magic food for now or not. If the survival of their species means I have to be hurt or die? Then ja, I'm going to blame them and I'm going to do everything in my power to get rid of them.

This has nothing to do with wardens or inmates.

No, it is entirely to do with your speciest view. If they can sustain themselves without hurting or killing you, would you maintain this opinion?
