04,

[Filtered to all HUMANS (non-vampire, non-Time Lord, etc); ask if not certain]
We've been out of blood for the beasts for some time, huh? What's to stop us from just not feeding them anymore? Can't we lock them up and just let them starve? They live forever, all right? So there'd be no "death toll" or worry of them coming back. We just lock them up and let them starve like the monsters they are.

Why is everyone treating them like they're some kind of humans, huh? I could say the same about some of the other creatures here too, but they haven't become dangerous yet.

Torture's frowned upon.

It'll breed resentment.

Because they are 'some kind of humans', or they were. Their diet distinguishes them from us perhaps, but they can't help their needs any more than some full humans can help allergies or chronic illness.

And in any case, they are stronger than us, faster than us, and more willing and able to work together than us, considering they're in the minority. Starvation drives creatures to extraordinary feats. I wouldn't want to be you if they caught wind of this suggestion, certainly.

I'm, I'm really not comfortable with this idea. I mean, it's not their fault they're vampires, and. Well, by calling them monsters, you're starting on a slipper slope, you know? Like, anyone who's not strictly human could get thrown under that definition and then you're just. Tossing everyone who's different into zero.

howie is tempted, but doesn't comment. damn professionalism.

That's not inhumane or anything.

[identity profile] evilbystatute.livejournal.com 2010-03-28 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thing is, that's punishing them for what they are - they can't help how they're made, no more than you can help being a human with no powers or abilities bar your lovely accent and strange use of languages.

You can't help that, but you can help what you do with it - and so can they. There's no reason to torture them. None at all.

That's not a bad idea.

Your notion is monsterous.

Can't fault your sense of self-preservation, son, but in my experience you want to be on the GOOD side of powerful things that know how to talk back to you.

You are a fucking idiot.

You could make the same argument that humans themselves are incredibly dangerous.

We're not out of blood. Since the loss of the Barge supply was recognised, we have never been out of blood. The problem has shifted from vampire attacks to idiots making unnecessary suggestions.

I am certain it's been said more eloquently.

NO.

How are they to reform without being fed? That is our purpose here.

Frankly, I've been called a monster enough times that I think such a solution would likely lead to a similar treatment of myself, so I will have to disagree with your proposition.

Besides, they're too fascinating, really, to just lock away. Some are even quite cooperative when you wish to learn the basics of their physiology.

No way, man. No way.

That's just going to make things worse around here and making the equivalent of a time bomb. No one stays in zero for more than seven days and when they get out after those seven days? Guess what they're going to go for first.

The Admiral must see some potential in them or they wouldn't be here. Don't belittle the wardens of these misguided creatures with your prejudice.

And I say this as a recent bite victim from a world overrun by zombies. So.

Yeah.

This was proposed the last time the creatures lost their meal tickets. As you can imagine, the response then was much the same as it is now: everybody scrambling to defend the monsters that prey on them.

And, if you're wondering how the story of last time ended: they killed several of our populace quite horrifically.

I think it'd just be more dangerous in the long run, if we did that. Once we had to open the doors, you know?
